Interesting post. The writing sparkles. While I have not come to the same conclusions as you, I appreciate your journey and your willingness to share it.

Interesting post to me for a couple of reasons. I to am from Chicago, raised a Lutheran, am half Swedish, gay (of course), and I know where this church is located. But like you I dumped organized religion a loooong time ago. Too much BS and still dosen't fit me very well. Still tho sounds like an interesting church. I too am in AZ but have been giving some serious thought to moving either moving back to Chicago or maybe back to Madison, WI which is where I lived before my move to AZ. Been here in AZ since 95 (Phoenix) and have just about had enough of this place. Too many reasons why I want to leave but I really just can't stand it anymore! Anyway thanks for the interesting post.

Cobban,

This is really profound. You bring up so many of my own conflicts about organized religion in your writings here, and I applaud your willingness to wear who you are and what you believe (or are challenged about believing) on your sleeve for all to see.

Ebenezer sounds like an absolutely amazing church. I'm very happy to read about it. And, moreso, to know that you and Ray have had such a beautiful experience there.

All of your posts are interesting but this one really stands out. Many of us share your confusion over our belief systems. The line about Phelps picketing Red Lobster is a classic.
