MontefalcoRay and I visited Italy back in the summer of 2000.  While spending time in the countryside of Umbria, we were both taken in by the quaint hilltop towns with the tiny little streets that led the homes along the mountainside.  One town in particular struck a chord and that was Montefalco.

It just so happens that Montefalco is Ray’s last name in Italian.  (He’s German, you figure it out.)

When we first happened upon Bisbee, it felt that some of the area had a ‘Italian hilltop village’ feel to it.  People have laughed at this comparison, but there are areas of Italy and Arizona that are similar in their arid environment and geographic characteristics.  We couldn’t afford to move to Italy so we chose Bisbee instead!

Actually, Bisbee chose us but that’s another story.

Once we made up our minds to move out of Bisbee and live in the country Ray, quite suddenly, decided to look around for some investment property.  We looked around here and there but nothing really spoke to us until this one house came on the market.  I had commented that the house reminded me of an Italian villa not only in its style but by the fact that it had a fig tree and an overgrown grapevine in the front.  The real estate agent informed me that Italian immigrants settled in the area and probably built it.  (Of course a real estate agent is going to say something like that!)

Ray bought the house and since we were in the ‘naming our homes’ mode, we affectionately christened it; Montefalco.
